MsChristinaCreates Profile
Christina Ramos is a Puerto Rican writer, illustrator, and advocate. She has immersed herself in art, education and community since being a young girl growing up in the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) community of the Williamsburg Projects in Brooklyn. It was here that she first sparked a creative spirit, she developed characters that enabled her to dream big, highlighting the beauty and the struggles that existed around her. She was encouraged to continue story telling by her teachers early on. Although this goal was pushed to the back burner for some years, she continued to work in the commercial apparel design field and then in advocacy, while continuing to write stories as a hobby. Artistic expression would always remain a must for her.
Now, as a mom of two little ones, she has realized that reaching children and parents with both fun and important topics is essential. It is the thing that excites her creativity most. Children have been a great inspiration for topics that are deserving of further discussion. Christina has also been inspired by the people and the work she has done in the field of advocacy at the Hispanic Federation, a membership based nonprofit with a deep impact in the Latino community and all communities of need throughout the U.S.
Recently, Christina has been writing and illustrating a picture book series named, “The Fun-ventures of Monkaboo and Meerka” which centers around a quirky, fun, and fashionable group of friends who are working through a number of daily challenges. While the issues are of top importance in her writing, fun must be a central force. As Christina often says, “We must never tame our inner child, instead let’s cultivate that level of joy forever!”
